The son of a middle-class provincial jeweller in pre-revolution Russia, Carl Fabergé by his late 30s was producing incomparable jewels and objets d'art for the Imperial Court and bourgeois Moscow and St Petersburg.
The presentation analyses his life and influences, illustrated with jewellery, flower studies, works of fantasy and the famous Imperial Easter Eggs. The talk parallels the life of Tsar Nicholas II, the tragedy of the Tsarevich Alexei, Rasputin and the events leading to the Revolution.
John Benjamin is a Fellow of the National Association of Jewellers Institute of Registered Valuers, a Freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company and a Founder Liveryman and Court Assistant of The Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars. He is author of 'Starting to Collect Antique Jewellery' and co-author with Paul Atterbury of 'The Jewellery and Silver of H.G.Murphy’.
