Young Arts Competition 2018/9

Competition organised by The Arts Society and the RBA

Every year, the The Arts Society Henley is invited by the Henley College and the Piggott School to view the art work of their sixth form students and this year, in addition, we visited Shiplake College. From these schools we selected three works from two students for submission to a National Competition organised by The Arts Society and the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA).

Last year there were, nationally, 350 items submitted by digital photography to this competition. Judging usually takes place in late autumn. Last year 25 of these works were selected and were exhibited at both the prestigious Mall Galleries and at the Royal Overseas League in early 2018.

This year we have selected two paintings by Lizzy Scales of the Piggott School and an art work by William Parton of Shiplake College.

The two paintings by artist Lizzy Scales from The Piggott School are

Young Girl with Old Pearl Earring                                    Modern Day Dandy

Both paintngs are acrylic and oil on canvas.

The artwork by artist William Parton from Shiplake College is called MIND.

MIND is a self portrait in acrylic on perspex. It is displayed as the front of a black metal box with phased LED lighting inside; the colours representing the artist’s different moods.
